Martin's Story

Overview

Martin Hojak, born on November 16, 1997, in Ljubljana, Slovenia is a professional judoka who embarked on a journey in the world of judo that left an indelible mark on many judoka and judo fans around the world. He burst onto the national scene starting from a young age, competing from a small primary school dojo in 2004 but soon traded to judo club Bežigrad. From there, he enjoys a storied 20-year career with the national team, becoming one of the greatest Slovenian judo players of all time.

During his illustrious career, Martin earned 15 national championship victories, including five senior titles, nations only male cadet European Championship medal in the past decade, two junior European medals and a World Championships bronze. Known for his several World Judo Tour medals and multiple scalps of world and olympic champions, he pursues the only accolade which Slovenian judo has not yet seen. The Male Olympic Medal.

Off the mat, Martin maintains a strong connection to the Slovenian nature pursuing his passions for paragliding, ski touring, alpinism and parkour while he evolves his judo journey.

Judoist Martin Hojak je na grand slamu v Bakuju danes dosegel odmevno zmago v kategoriji do 73 in v uvodnem krogu odpravil Akila Gjakovo s Kosova, evropskega prvaka iz leta 2021. Za Hojaka je bila pomembna potrditev zmaga z Gjakovom, saj je tekmec dobil oba letošnja dvoboja v Zagrebu in v Linzu.

Slovenski judoisti so v avstralskem Perthu na tekmovanju Oceania Open dosegli dve zmagi in dve drugi mesto. Ob odsotnosti velike večine najboljših judoistov in judoistk sta se zmag veselila Martin Hojak (do 73 kg) in Anka Pogačnik (do 70 kg).
